Project Scope

Balcony Design

Deep Steelworks’ in-house design department led the balcony design process. The team developed an integrated solution incorporating a steel carcass, aluminium decking, aluminium balustrades, and aluminium soffit panels.

Importantly, all elements were engineered to achieve a 60-year design life and a Class A2 fire rating, ensuring full compliance with British Standards and NHBC requirements. In addition, the use of precision-designed aluminium extrusions created seamless finishes without visible welds.

To further enhance durability, all aluminium components received a polyester powder-coated finish, while steel carcasses were hot-dip galvanised to an average coating thickness of 85 microns.

Manufacturing Process

Our fully trained in-house production team manufactured all balconies, ensuring complete quality control throughout the process. This included:

  • Fabrication of the balcony steel carcasses

  • Assembly of aluminium balustrades

  • Full pre-assembly of balcony units, including decking and soffits

As a result, each balcony arrived on site fully assembled and ready for installation, allowing direct fixing to the building structure using the site tower crane.

This off-site manufacturing approach significantly reduced on-site works. Consequently, it minimised health and safety risks while improving efficiency through a controlled factory environment.

Balcony Installation

Each installation followed a detailed programme and strictly adhered to the approved Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS). Furthermore, every site team included:

  • An SSSTS-qualified Site Supervisor

  • Fully qualified slingers

  • Experienced and skilled operatives

Together, these measures ensured that all installations were completed safely, efficiently, and to specification.

Steel Staircases

In addition to the balcony package, Deep Group London supplied and installed steel staircases across the development. These staircases met all relevant safety standards while also complementing the architectural design.

They were carefully fabricated to provide safe, practical, and durable access between different building levels.

Steel Block Barriers

Our scope also included the design, supply, and installation of steel block barriers. These systems enhanced both site safety and security.

Moreover, the barriers were custom-designed to integrate seamlessly with the building structure, delivering a solution that was both functional and visually coherent.

Quality Assurance and Handover

Before handover, our team conducted full QA inspections on all balconies. These checks included:

  • Verification of bolt torque settings

  • Confirmation of correct handrail heights

  • Inspection of decking and component installation

As a result, every balcony met the required quality standards prior to client handover, ensuring confidence in both performance and compliance.
